Target Canada Confirms Breastfeeding Support
Thursday, March 14, 2013
After a breastfeeding incident at Target in the United States last year went from bad to worse to nation-wide nurse-in, a lot of Canadians were rightfully concerned about whether Target Canada would be ensuring its stores are breastfeeding friendly. Of course the law in Canada supports our right to breastfeed anytime, anywhere, but as we all know, that doesn't guarantee that women won't be harassed by people who aren't familiar with the law.
As with most things, I thought it was best to address the issue straight on and simply ask Target Canada. So I did.
That all sounds great to me. Now we wait and see whether it all works out, but at least the corporate policy is in writing.

Kuddos for them for even responding...would of been easy just to ignore you as they are being bombarded right now because they are new here...
Let's hope that everything they "stand behind" translates down to store level...
Dee: I'm not easy to ignore. ;)
Good for you, taking the initiative to ask the question and keep them on their toes. I'm anxiously awaiting the opening of my local Target...
Good thing for them! i wish other companies would follow their lead
Well done asking it!
Breast feeding is a natural thing and should be encouraged everywhere. If they can put booths in train stations for people to use drugs, they should certainly enable women to breastfeed wherever they like.
Interesting considering this past Saturday, I was with my husband and three month old daughter at the brand new Target store in St. John's, Newfoundland. My little one got hungry and so I asked not one but two Target employees if there was a place to nurse my little one and both said no, so I ended up going out into the cold and feeding her in the car in the parking lot.

Thanks for your comment. It looks like the staff in St. John's needs some training/retraining. I'm going to alert Target Canada to the issue and hopefully they can resolve it quickly.
I went into our Fredericton target the week it opened, to shop for nursing tanks. While I was trying them on, a staff member said 'oh, and if you ever need to nurse while shopping here, our fitting rooms are always available for you to do that'. I was impressed that their staff were trained to be aware of their policy, and that I didn't even have to ask.
