Does this ad appeal to you or turn you off?
Wednesday, August 24, 2011
Edit to add: Because a lot of people were confused, I'll explain a bit. This is a poster in the window of a store that sells brand name products at discount prices. I was hoping for people to comment on whether "baby got brand" is a concept that would appeal to you and make you want to go into the store and buy brand name things for your baby or whether the concept of "baby got brand" turns you off and would cause you to walk away.

My 1st thoughts are cute baby, nice simple "toy", and bright colors. After that, the wording is unappealing to me. I try to stay away from favoring brands just because of their name or advertising, but rather by quality, price, and ethics of the company. I hope my children follow in my footsteps, so directly tying brands to baby is a huge turn off for me.
It's all about perspective. I know exactly which store this is, and I am a regular shopper there, so it would not turn me off. In fact, I would be more likely to go in, because the poster means that there's a current promotion of baby items and therefore new stock to go and check out. This store sells a variety of brand names and items of all varieties (toys, books, baby gear, clothes, shoes, etc). Whilst I would not buy branded baby clothes, like other commenters, I would certainly buy 'brand' toys for their quality and longevity, and this chain of stores is in fact the first place I look when I'm shopping for a specific toy/ item or gifts. Why pay more elsewhere when I can get a deal at this store?
If I were into brands, I'd probably like it. It would tell me that "brands are to be found within."
But for now, I have the luxury of dressing my son the same way I dress myself - with second hand hand-me-downs. He doesn't care and probably appreciates that all his clothes come pre-broken in and soft.
It doesn't speak to me, but I know segments of the population would
Not be offended and would understand it to mean "come on in for deals on brands". I'm guessing the baby was uses as visual interest for their intended audience.
