My Blog is a Preschooler
Thursday, May 26, 2011
Three years ago, I sat at my laptop at my in-laws kitchen table and tapped out my very first blog post on PhD in Parenting. After having written my first six blog posts, I had received a grand total of 13 page views. A couple of weeks later, when I wrote a post on faulty logic from the Ontario coroner regarding bed sharing, I received my first comment from someone I didn't already know. That marked, for me, the beginning of a community building journey.
I have enjoyed having this blog as a sounding board for my ideas, as a soap box for my rants, and as a megaphone for my knowledge. I love the fact that the communities I have built here, on facebook and on twitter bring the same people back over and over again. I also love that Google, StumbleUpon, and sharing of my posts in various forums brings in new people every single day.
I'm three years, 639 posts, and 17,605 comments in, but this proverbial PhD in Parenting is just at its beginning. There is so much more to explore, discuss and share. I hope to dip my little toe into lots of new waters, wearing a fun party dress as I do so.
I hope you'll continue to join me on my journey. The best blogiversary gift you can give me is to keep reading, keep commenting, and keep sharing the posts with your friends.

Happy blogiversary!
Congratulations on your blogversary! I think your voice is an important part of the discussion of parenting, feminism and so much more. Thanks for taking the time to include so many in the conversation.
Annie, It is amazing what you have achieved in just three years! I would have loved to have had the company of this blog when my children were really young as many of the ideas you have written about are ones that I was searching for guidance on, and finding just the odd bit of information here and there, but never in the strength of a community.
I am looking forward to following your journey over the next decade and seeing this community grow wider and further. You are an inspiration (and, yes, I saw the shout out to you from UNICEF today ... so clearly the world is watching!). Many Congratulations!
Congrats on your blogiversary!
PhD in Parenting is one of my absolute favourite parenting blogs. I read it every day, since you deliver such stellar content with such impeccable style.
Thank you!!
I had no idea your blog was younger than mine. Now I'm going to call you "kiddo" all the time.
Happy blogiversary, indeed — and a million times, thank you!
Congrats!
Oh the thrilling three's !!! Wonderful, I love your blog from the far side of the world!!!
Congratulations! I also thought you had been around for much longer. You've done a lot of good!
Congrats! I love reading her and stop by almost every day.
Congratulations my dear friend! The dignity you demonstrate every day through your blogging actions, beliefs and support make you a role model for all. I hope you get some cake to celebrate!
Congrats on the blogiversary, and thanks for all the great content you've provided. Keep it up!
Oooh....cake. Always a good idea. Although I guess I did that yesterday on my blogiversary. I went to the new Cupcake Lounge and had a Dulce de Leche cupcake. :)

Thank you! I think you were among my first readers. I remember your comments going WAY back. So glad you're still around. :)
Congratulations on your accomplishment! I hope the coming year is the best yet! I really enjoy reading!!
Happy blogiversary, Annie! Thank you for creating and giving so much to this community of parents.
Happy blogiversary! Your writing and your willigness to take a stand for the things you believe in are aspirational.
Happy blogiversary (hm, I wonder how one spells that "word"?). Your social critique, excellent writing, and sharp insights are a major contribution, Annie. This blog is so important. Keep the rants, insights, and calls to action coming!
Annie, I didn't know you only started your blog half a year earlier than me! Wow, I'm so impressed -- once again. This "kid" looks and feels like it's been around for a lot longer. I am always so impressed with the quality of your writing and your research. So happy to also be connected with you through HealthyChild.org.
I just saw your Pippi Langstrumpf post, your daughter looked so adorable. I loved Pippi growing up in Germany! I still remember that movie. I should make a point to buy it for L when we go to Germany in a month.
Thanks for linking up your wonderful breastfeeding picture to my latest post! Take that, Facebook!
Liebe Grusse,
Dagmar
Happy 3rd blogiversary! I have definitely enjoyed your blog and I'm still an every-day reader... As a side note, I have started reading your blog on my Android phone and the comments are not visible. Any way you can change that from the technical side so they display? I am using a reader called "Pulse".
I would never have guessed your blog was so young! Your site is so professional and your writing is engaged, well-researched and accessible. I often point people your direction for your excellent posts on CIO among others. Congratulations and I look forward to reading when your blog is in high school :)

Happy blogiversary to you! I'll be here reading for the next three years at least. :)
I'll be three in October--which is 10,000 blog years from now of course. Congratulations on your enormous success. I really enjoyed meeting you at Blissdom ;)

Happy day! Oh Annie, I've learned so much from you. I'll keep reading if you keep writing!
Annie,
I have enjoyed reading your blog now for over a year. Thanks for your dedication.
