Still "baby" wearing at 3.5 years

I certainly don't wear her everyday anymore, but on a challenging hike through rough terrain, she still gets to ride. Our go to carrier at this point for longer walks is the Catbird Baby Pikkolo.

(Yes, I'm a bit red in that last picture. That was quite a climb with an extra 37 pounds on my back.)

Disclosure: Catbird Baby is an advertiser on my site. However, this is not a paid post and I have owned this carrier (which I paid for myself) since before I even started this blog.

It's funny because I often forget that I can still wear my son. I wore him constantly through out his first year and into 18 months. I brought out my old sling the other day and he started doing a happy dance and asking to come up.

You look only a touch red. I'm sure I would be a tomato red. You look great.

How great! I miss babywearing... sometimes. That is a lot of weight to carry!

Kudos to you! Hiking w/ an extra weight on your back or chest is no small feat.

Awesome! That's a lot of weight to carry on a trek! I love my Pikkolo and wearing my toddler (only 22 lbs though) too!

You are wearing it wrong...it's about 1/2 a metre too far to the right...lol...babywearing when hiking/walking has always been my hubby's job - I carried her 24/7 for the first nine months, now it is his turn. But more seriously, ta for the link have been wondering what alternatives were available for my 1 year old now that she has outgrown her current sling.

Awesome! My husband and I both used the Ergo with our almost 3 year old recently. We hadn't used it in a while but it was a lifesaver at The Ex.

Beautiful pics! We plan on using our Ergo for a long time.

I have a pikkolo as well, and I love it! I can't wait to have this baby (and get rid of the 25lbs on the front, haha) so I can put my 30lbs on my back again, well, when new baby is not in one of my carriers!

That's sweet! I also toted my kiddo in our Ergo when she was over three, a few times, but now I wish that I had a photo of her in it then!

:)

Whenever Claudia sees her carrier she requests it. Mami, Becco please!

I have it in the car ALWAYS, you never know when you will need to pick up a three year old

I loved the Babytrekker for these types of hikes. You can ad stirrups to the waistband to help keep your toddlers feet up a bit higher. Great! We used it again this summer and my daughter just turned four. I think it was probably the last time she will be using it, though. 40 lbs and 4 years old is probably a bit too much to be lugging around.

Sweet to see your pix! When my little person (also 3.5) has hard day, she often wants to ride in the Ergo...feels so sweet (and heavy!) I miss babywearing...

Wow - you can wear her in the Pikkolo without the support belt? I had to get the belt for mine last month when my guy hit 17lbs! You must be far stronger than me....

I think the last time I wore my daughter she was about that age - shortly before I got pregnant. I loved how it make things easier and loved the closeness.

Well, you're lucky your 3.5 year old isn't as big as mine. She's as tall as most 5-6 year olds andweighs over 50 pounds! So good for you, but I sure couldn't do it!

Yes! When we go on longish hikes or outings, our 3yo could still benefit from being carried. I carried him down a mile in a ring sling back in May (he even fell asleep!)... but sure would have liked that Ergo back (why did we sell it!?) A photo of me & him here with a ringsling back carry: http://www.kellynaturally.com/post/Hiking-With-Children.aspx

we still sometimes wear my 60 lb 4 year old in a Boba Carrier.... My 2 year old is always in a Boba....

September 8, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJeannie

I had a carrier of that style that I loved and lost it a year or so ago. I keep telling myself that it's ok because my daughter is too old to be worn. She turns four in a few weeks. But in fact, she's only 29 lbs. Seeing you with a heavier child on your back makes me wish for my carrier again!
